Allah says أَفَلا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ أَمْ عَلَى قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَا “Do they not reflect deeply on the Qur’an, or have hearts locked themselves out?” (Muḥammad 47:24). This course will cover various approaches to tadabbur, a divine invitation to contemplate the layered meanings of the Qur’an. Every verse in the Book of Allah is pregnant with seventy meanings according to ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbbās, and every door of meaning can be opened with a key, allowing the heart to, ultimately, mirror its own reflection on the Word of God.
