Allah describes those possessed of discerning hearts as الَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَىٰ جُنُوبِهِمْ وَيَتَفَكَّرُونَ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَٰذَا بَاطِلًا سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ “…those who when standing, sitting, or reclining, bear God in mind, and ponder the creation of the heavens and of the earth, then confess: ‘Lord! Nothing of this have You created without purpose, no! Glory be to You! Deliver us, then, from the torment of the fire!’” (Āl ʿImrān 3:191). Al-Bistāmī once reflected: “Love entails that you regard your much as little, and your beloved’s little as much.” This principle is Qur’anic, in point of fact, insofar as Allah describes His much as but one blessing in the verse وَإِن تَعُدُّواْ نِعْمَةَ اللّهِ لاَ تُحْصُوهَا إِنَّ اللّهَ لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ “And if you would reckon the blessing of Allah, you could not reckon it—verily, Allah is forgiving, compassionate” (al-Naḥl 16:18), but describes the scarce and deficient remembrance of those whom He loves as abundant in the verse وَالذَّاكِرِينَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَالذَّاكِرَاتِ “…those men and women who remember Allah abundantly!” (al-Aḥzāb 33:35). Our acts in life are all mundane except that which we render to God as worship. What, then, can be said about a man who could not rise or sleep or eat or drink or stand or sit but on the thought of God; a man who when asked to define beauty declared his experience thereof as beholding God in every endeavor; a man whose eye by night swept quiescent but whose heart pulsed always present! Lanturna invites you to receive the sacred words of the Prophet —whose remembrance of God becomes our nexus to Him and whose divine communion becomes the dialect of our gratitude—that we may render the little we can muster to receive the much He bequeaths!

LODGING AND MEALS

As our program will be held at a campsite, bear in mind that our accommodations will be rustic. Attendees will share dorm-style rooms and latrines. Upgraded housing is located in the lodge and conference center. It is still camp housing but more comfortable and has latrines at a closer proximity.
Spring Camp is a family retreat, with communal living being the primary objective of the experience, intending connection and companionship. As such, guests will share rooms in our gender-segregated, dorm-style accommodations, including both upgraded or rustic housing options.
Rooming for Seniors or Guests with Disabilities
You are valued! If your room has a bunk bed, we will ensure that yours be the lower bunk. If you have more complex mobility impairments, please email Hussein El-Genk at hussein@lanturna.com.
Rooming for Families with Children*
Your family is welcome and may join our gender-segregated dorm rooms (6-8 beds per room). This means that males in your family would be in the men’s rooms and females in the women’s rooms. We list eye masks and earplugs on our packing list to ensure comfort for all.
This facility offers a very limited number of small private family rooms for families with babies aged two and younger. These will be allocated on the basis of first requests. Send an email to Hussein El-Genk via hussein@lanturna.com to inquire.
*Children aged three and older are allocated regular-sized beds. Children younger than three are not allocated beds and are expected to sleep in their own travel crib or share a parent’s twin-sized bed. If you want a standard bed for your child under the age of 3, you will need to register your child under the Child (3 – 6) add-on.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided throughout the program. Meals will be prepared by the YMCA staff and will reflect a youth camp menu with a salad bar for adults. All meats will be alāl.

El-Hajj Hisham presented the class with so much love as if he was talking about a very close personal friend mā shāʾ Allāh. I was able to feel the love and pain that our Prophet went through. He made me realize how I can draw from our beloved Prophet’s personality and attitude in times of trials and tribulations and in times of joy, providing insight into our own life issues and concerns. My three kids enjoyed this class too.

The Lanturna Sīrah Retreat was such a beautiful gathering. The insights gained have changed my perceptive about how I relate to the sīrah. I feel a deep connection to the Prophet Muhammad . Weeks after the event I still continue some of the beautiful sunnahs we practiced.

Lanturna’s “Years of the Beloved” Retreat was a wonderful experience for my family. El-Hajj Hisham brought the sīrah to life and helped us view the life of our dear Prophet in an entirely different light. I’ve read multiple sīrah books before, but have never felt this close to the Prophet . I deeply admire El-Hajj Hisham’s vision for the Muslim community in the United States. His warm, practical approach allows us to truly live the sīrah every moment of our lives. May Allah put barakah in Lanturna and allow El-Hajj Hisham’s wisdom to reach every home.

THE AFTERGLOW

afterglow

/ˈɑːftəɡləʊ/

noun
  • light or resplendence remaining in the sky after the sun has set

Knowledge is light, and our gatherings are meant to convey that light from our teachers to our students. But after the sun has set on any of our given programs, there remains an afterglow along the horizon. Let us bask in that light with a followup intensive, since we’ve made it this far. Yes, another gathering of souls seeking to dive a little deeper, to linger a little longer and, in the afterglow before nightfall, soak in all the splendor of a sunset skyline.
