CAMPSITE ADDRESS
TRAVEL- PREPARATIONS - LODGING
We strongly recommend that all attendees take Friday off from work and school and arrive at the campsite as our program will commence at 3:00 with jumuʿah prayer.
TRAVEL
Flying – We encourage you to arrive at Dulles Airport (IAD) on Friday, May 24 before noon for guaranteed transport with one of our volunteers. If you arrive at Dulles airport before noon on Friday, our volunteers will provide you transportation to the program. If you arrive later or at Washington National (DCA) airport, you are welcome to rent a car or request transport from other attendees via our WhatsApp group. Bear in mind that the campsite is two hours away from both airports.
Attendees in need of transport from the airport to the campsite and attendees who wish to volunteer as drivers are invited to complete our Shuttle Form.
Driving – Prepare to arrive by 3 pm on Friday, May 24.
PREPARATIONS
LODGING AND MEALS
Lodging consists of cabins with bunk beds and shared latrines. Attendees must bring their own bedding, including a small pillow.
We encourage families to stay in our dorm-style cabins in order to have a fuller experience with other camp attendees, such that fathers stay with their sons and mothers with their daughters. There are a limited number of private family rooms, which you may request via email (info@lanturna.com), and we will do our best to honor your request.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided throughout the program. Meals will be simple, healthy, and wholesome.

Nestled in the quaint, picturesque mountains of Shenandoah, Brethren Woods Camp & Retreat Center welcomes Lanturna’s Third Annual Family Retreat, in an ambience conducive to devotion, reflection, and study and featuring a number of memorable family recreations, amid the majestic beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains skyline.

The recommended text for this Spring’s Camp is Abū Ḥāmid al-Ghazzālī’s “Inner Dimensions of Islamic Worship,” a spiritual treatment of the profound rituals of Islam. Its chapters are short, and we have included the following reading timetable that you may complete the book ten days before our retreat begins. DESCRIPTION
Our beloved Prophet Mūsā ascended the mountain where Allah spoke to Him these words:إِنَّنِىٓ أَنَا ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعْبُدْنِى وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِذِكْرِىٓ “I, I am Allah. No god has the right of worship except Me. So worship Me, and establish prayer for My veneration” (ṭā hā 20:14). Our beloved Prophet Muhammad ascended beyond the seven skies to receive the gift of prayer. The command to pray descended upon our lord Mūsā from a burning bush, and our lord Muhammad ascended to receive the command from a burning desire. Our lord Mūsa had sought the warmth of a fire (nār) for his family, and our lord Muhammad was invited into the light of God (nūr) for his ummah. The two discussed the blessing in the sixth sky of whether the ummah could bear fifty daily prayers, and our lord Mūsā pleaded with our lord Muhammad to continue asking Allah to lessen its number, and so Allah rewarded each of five prayers tenfold. Remarking on the gift, our lord Muhammad once said الصلاة معراج المؤمن “Prayer is the ascent of the faithful.” Lanturna invites you and your families to transcend into the presence of Allah on five daily ascents toward His light, that we lose ourselves in His splendour, and reflect the light of prayer in our words, our deeds, and our states.

At the dawn of revelation, the Prophet ﷺ was commanded وَأَمَّا بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثْ “And as for the blessing of thy Lord, proclaim it!” (al-ḍuḥā 93:11). And toward the eve of his passing, he instructed those present to inform those absent.
